How to make your four walls cozy and comfortable? First of all, you need to measure all and choose perfect bed. It´s the biggest furniture in the bedroom and you need to know who is going to sleep there. For single person I recommend a bed of 150cm wide and 200cm long. However, there are other measures: 135cm, 105cm and 90cm. You can choose them when the 150cm bed doesn´t fit in the room. For a couple, the most comfortable bed is 180cm wide and 200cm long. In this one you can also fit a child in the middle.
I recommend a foldable storage bed, you can store a lot of things under the mattress: bed linen, blankets, pillows, etc… Be careful with bed with sharp corners, they are dangerous, you always end up hitting your legs into it. The most comfortable are padded beds, and if they are made of leather it is easier to clean them. Your comfort is the most important, choose well your headboard, it is great if its upholstery with textile like velvet.
To have cozy bedroom it is important to use rugs, they give sensation of warmness and it´s color can animate your room. Be careful with mix and match of carpets and curtains, they have to go well together, for example curtain with bright colors or pattern and plain carpet or the other way around. The rule is to choose one thing with pattern and the other one without.
In this project in the north part of Madrid we chose grey and white for a teenage girl. What is remarkable of that room is a picture from Danish brand BoConcept, a girl with wings on her head, which reminds me film “Black swan” with Natalie Portman. Remember, you can always change a picture if you get tired with it, it is easier to change a picture than a bed or curtains.
Colors in the bedroom should be calm, neutral, so it invites you to relax, disconnect and rest. Grey, blue and green are the most suitable ones. White bed linen give you fresh sensation and to spice a thing a bit up play with colorful blankets and cushions, you can always change them, for example different colors for different seasons.
Your closet should be bright and built-in, so it wouldn´t have heavy look. You can play with the texture like we did in this project in the north of Madrid.
A ceiling fan will help you in the hot summer nights, however you have a refreshing floor or air conditioning.
In the winter you will be happy about wood floor so you won´t have to look for your slippers immediately.
What are we missing? We will need to bedtables, one of each for every side of the bed. It´s important to have drawers to be able to hide all the things that are personal like medicines and so on. Nowadays there are many different models, made of wood, marble stone, metal…
If you want to have magic bedroom don´t forget about illumination. It should be indirect and warm light. You also need some lamps for reading in bed. It is interesting to put some perimeter light in the ceiling. This is how it looks like in one of ours projects in Salamanca neighborhood in Madrid.
